My Hiking Library turns hiking workouts from Apple Health into a personal hiking journal on iPhone, including iPhone Duo, and iPad. No app-specific account is required. The developer does not operate a server that collects your hiking history, health information, photos, videos, or location.
With your permission, the app accesses:
Imported workout data, routes, media references, photo-search data, renamed places, and app preferences are stored on your device. The app’s CloudKit synchronization does not include personal HealthKit records, routes, locations, or the photo-search index.
The app shares monthly and yearly hiking summaries and your unit preference with its widget through a private on-device app-group container. This allows the widget to show totals and period comparisons without reading Apple Health itself. The widget’s background and time-period choices are managed by the system’s widget settings. These summaries are not sent to the developer.
Notes, ratings, hidden-hike preferences, and collection names, descriptions, and membership sync through your private iCloud database when available. The app uses a one-way identifier derived from a workout identifier to associate this information with a hike. The synced records do not include the original workout identifier, workout dates, health measurements, routes, locations, weather, or Photo Library identifiers. Information you choose to write in notes or collection descriptions is included in that private sync.
The developer does not receive or have access to these private iCloud records. Device backups and restores are managed separately by Apple and your device settings; the app does not operate its own online backup service.
Your photos and videos remain in Apple Photos. My Hiking Library does not upload them; any iCloud Photos syncing is managed separately by Apple.
The app sends a hike’s starting coordinate to Apple’s location and Maps services to identify nearby places. Historical weather requests send the hike’s coordinate and relevant date and time to Apple Weather. These requests do not send the complete workout route, and the developer does not receive them. Weather responses are cached in memory for the current app session.
Apple services handle information under the Apple Privacy Policy.
When you choose to share a photo or video, the app temporarily copies the original Photos resource and provides it to the destination you select through Apple’s share sheet. Shared files may contain embedded metadata, including location. The receiving service’s privacy policy applies. The app removes the temporary copy when the share sheet finishes.
The app has no ads or third-party tracking or analytics tools. It does not sell personal information or use health, photo, or location information for advertising.
You can change Health access in the Health app and Photos, Location, and Notification permissions in iOS or iPadOS Settings. Declining access limits the features that need it. Revoking access does not automatically erase information already stored locally. Photo-search analysis requires current photo access; hiding a hike excludes it from photo-search indexing and results.
You can clear notes, remove ratings, detach media, and delete collections within the app. Detaching media does not delete the original from Apple Photos. When a source workout is deleted from Apple Health and the app next synchronizes, its local hike and associated synced metadata are removed, and widget summaries are updated. Minimal deletion markers may remain in private iCloud storage to prevent older devices from restoring deleted records.
Deleting the app removes its local data but does not delete your original Apple Health workouts, Apple Photos media, or private iCloud records. You can manage the app’s iCloud data through your Apple Account’s iCloud storage settings. Synced information may return if you reinstall the app. Backup retention is controlled separately through Apple’s backup settings.
Because the developer cannot access your private iCloud records, the developer cannot retrieve or delete them on your behalf.
This policy will be updated when the app’s data practices change. The effective date identifies the latest revision.
